Shannel Douglas joined the Pronews 7 team in November 2012 as a Reporter.

Born and raised in Queens, New York, Shannel is a city girl a long way from home. Her family comes from Guyana in South America and she is very proud of her West Indian roots.

Shannel graduated from Rutgers State University with a B.A. in Journalism and Political Science. Throughout her years as a Scarlet Knight, Shannel stayed heavily active in school organizations. She was the Vice President of the West Indian Student Organization as well as an Apartment Assistant on campus. She also worked at her school’s television station, RU-tv, where her passion for journalism grew. Shannel interned at WABC-7 in New York and NBC Sports & Olympics. She is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalist.

In her spare time, Shannel loves watching sports. She is a fan of all New York sport teams including the New York Giants, Knicks, Yankees and Rangers. She also enjoys Skyping her family back on the east coast and traveling.
