It‘s always a good idea to become familiar with the dashboard warning lights before they come on. Review your manual for each one. Sometimes it is okay to keep driving your car for a short distance if one of these lights turns on. Other indicators need to be heeded immediately or you could damage your car in minutes.

If you see the check engine light come on, you don’t need to pull over immediately. Usually it isn’t something that will stop your car from working, but you do need to bring your car in so that we can determine the problem. However, if you see the check engine light flashing you should pull overimmediately and have the vehicle towed to us to determine the problem. It is impossible to say what the problem is until we do a thorough diagnostic test.

Here are three lights you should never ignore:

The engine oil light

If this comes on, you should pull over immediately. It means that the oil level or oil pressure is too low. Either way, it could hurt your car badly if you keep driving.

Temperature gauge

It is a good idea to look at the temperature gauge from time to time while driving. If you see your car overheating, turn off the A/C and pull over immediately.

If the engine gets too hot it means that some part of your cooling system isn’t working. If you continue to drive when your car is overheating you will permanently damage your engine.

Although it may seem inconvenient to pull over, don’t try to make it home as expensive engine damage will occur.

Brake warning light

If the brake warning light comes on when you apply your brakes it means that your brake fluid is dangerously low or the brake pads are worn out. Don’t mess with your brakes! Pull over and get your car towed to us so we can fix the problem.

We are capable of handling any situation that may arrise with your vehicle. That’s what we are here for. We pride ourselves in making sure your

vehicle is in great shape to avoid having these lights come on in the first place. Stop by any time and we will be happy to go over what the lights mean in your vehicle.

Timing belts, we have all heard the term but may be uncertain as to what they are. Simply put, they control the timing, or co-ordination, of the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves with the up and down motion of the pistons.
