AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amigo's United Supermarket franchise is adding a new location in Hereford. The new location will be completed by 2014, and will add 125 new jobs to the area. This will be the 4th Amigo's location in Texas. Other location can be found in Lubbock, Plainview, and Amarillo.

"We know two things. Number 1, the population of the state of Texas is growing. Number 2, the fastest growing part of that population is the Hispanic population, and that's especially true in West Texas," says United Director of Communications, Eddie Owens.

Hereford resident Isabelle Ceballos says she drives to Amarillo every two weeks to take advantage of Amigos' specialty items that target the Hispanic market. "I like to shop here because it's cheaper, better quality of meat, the food".

But while Amigo's customers enjoy the variety, some Amarillo residents are sticking to supporting small businesses, like Mercado Latino off Amarillo Boulevard.

"I think it's real important for small businesses like this to stay around and that's part of why I do it. It contributes to the growth of Amarillo," says Rene Perez of Amarillo.

The project is being supported by the Hereford Economic Development Corporation.
