More than 2,000 acres of park service land was burned over the weekend and investigators believe it to be human-caused.

The fire started at about 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the Rosita off-road vehicle area of Lake Meredith National Recreation area, the National Park Service said.

It wasn't until Sunday at 6:00 p.m that the fire was contained. While no structures burned, several Cottonwood trees were destroyed by the blaze, officials said.

It burned an estimated total of 2,228 acres of which 95 percent was on park service land.

The fire remains under investigation but it is believed to have been human-caused, officials confirmed.

Potter County, Borger Fire Department, Global Frontline Solutions, the Texas Forest Service and the National Park Service all responded to the fire.
