AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An American Kennel Club sanctioned dog show will be front and center this week at the Amarillo Civic Center. The Panhandle Kennel Club of Texas, Inc. and the Clovis-Portales Kennel Club is sponsoring the High Plains Cluster Dog Show, beginning Thursday and continuing through Sunday, September 5. The best part is admission is free. Over 1,000 dogs, representing more than 150 breeds, are expected to compete.
Each day is a separate, new dog show and starts at 8 a.m. Each show will culminate in Best of Show judging, which may take place as late as 6 p.m. each day. Events will include conformation competitions, obedience and rally competitions testing the abilities of dogs and handlers to perform various tasks.
On Saturday, guided tours will be given, providing visitors the chance to meet various breeds of dogs. The tours will be available at 10 a.m. And 2 p.m. on Saturday only. If you would like to take the backstage guide tour, meet in the concourse between the North and South Exhibit Halls of the Amarillo Civic Center.
The Amarillo Civic Center anticipates the show will bring in an estimated half a million dollars to the economy, from hotels, restaurants, to groomers and pet stores.
