AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Alzheimer's Association's The Longest Day relay gives people around the world the chance to team up and give it their all for 16 hours, as patients with Alzheimer's give it their all every hour of every day.

June 20, 2012, is the longest day of the year with 16 hours of daylight.  For those 16 hours, at least one member of Amarillo's Team Hope will be in motion, taking part in physical activity- walking, running, biking, playing sports.  When one member gets tired, another will jump in and take over with any activity they choose.

The team is small- only six members have registered to participate.  But that is not stopping the team from reaching, and hopefully breaking, their fundraising goals.  So far, $1,100 has been raised, and more donations have been promised.

The team will be set up at Medi Park on Wednesday, June 20, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Information about the event will be available, as well as Alzheimer's awareness cards, photos of loved ones the team members have lost to the disease and a donation jar.  Members of the local Alzheimer's chapter will be on-hand to show their support, as Amarillo's Team Hope is the only team in the Amarillo area participating in the event.

Team captains Kyndel Lee-Bates and Laura Wylie are encouraging everyone to come out and show their support, whether it's through donations, pictures or applause.

All proceeds raised will go to fund Alzheimer's research and help patients who are currently living with the disease.
