CANYON, TEXAS -- Thousands of people packed downtown Canyon Wednesday morning for the start of the Fourth of July festivities.
The annual Fourth of July Canyon Parade kicked off Wednesday morning at 10:30. From the colorful floats to the red, white and blue clothing galore, there was plenty for people to look at. Not only was there a parade, Canyon residents and out-of-towners also had to chance to shop at the various shops set up on the square and of course get some great things to eat. The hardest part, spectators said, was choosing what to get!
"Probably the fajita burritos, we like those," said longtime Canyon resident, Jo Carter. "Or the corn dogs, or the funnel cakes," she laughed.
Celebrations continued in Canyon throughout the day, even continuing into the evening with the community's annual Party at the Park at Conner Park. But at the end of the day, it wasn't about the parade, food or even the shops, it was about celebrating our Independence Day and doing it together.
"Our grandkids are from out of town and they've come to spend the Fourth of July with us and we're just excited that they're here with us," added Carter. "We love it."
"Everybody coming out in their red, white and blue and just being a part and being blessed to be in America," said another Canyon resident Lisa Rhodes. "It's an amazing place to be."
