AMARILLO, TEXAS -- On Jan. 13, 2013 Amarillo Police were sent to the 600 block of S. Bolton in reference to burglary in progress call with a the intent to commit assault.
A female caller told police that her ex-boyfriend had entered her apartment without permission and was assaulting her. She claimed that her current boyfriend had defended her with a weapon.
Police arrived at the residence and found a man lying in the front driveway with laceration wounds. The woman and her boyfriend were inside the apartment and identified the man as the ex-boyfriend who had assaulted the woman.
Her current boyfriend, who is also a resident of the apartment told police that he heard the commotion and stepped between the man and the woman. When the man raised his hand to strike the woman, the current boyfriend struck the victim with his weapon.
The ex-boyfriend was announced dead at the scene. He was identified as Christopher Wayne Mooney, 37. An autopsy has been ordered and will be performed at a later date.
Amarillo Special Crimes Unit is still investigation the case. Anyone has information regarding the case is asked to call 378-9468.
