AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Panhandle Tejano Democrats held their kickoff meeting at Acapulco's Restaurant Tuesday night.

The local chapter is an extension of the state-wide organization, Texas Tejano Democrats. In the meeting, elected officials discussed the future of the Hispanic vote and their goals for this year.

The focus of the Panhandle Tejano Democrats is to seek full representations of Hispanics at all levels within the Democratic Party. They also plan to take appropriate public stands on issues affecting the community. Lubbock Tejano Democrats President, Olga Riojas-Aguero, served as guest speaker.

Sergio Velasquez was named President of the new chapter. Officers were sworn in by Potter County Justice of the Peace, Nancy Bosquez.
