Escaped inmate in custody after assault, high speed chase

Tuesday evening 40-year-old Torrence Smith also know as Torrence Brown escaped from the Donley County Jail.

According to Donley County Sheriff Butch Blackburn, Smith overpowered a female jailer, assaulted her, then stole her keys and vehicle. A high speed chase ensued.

Gray County Sheriffs started the chase on highway 70 and Interstate 40 as Smith tried to escape from law enforcement officials. In Pampa several attempts were made to stop the vehicle using spikes however all of the attempts failed. The chase ended in Pampa when a Donley County Deputy collided with the vehicle that Smith was driving.

Smith suffered minor injuries in the crash, he will be transported back to the Donley County Jail where he will face escape charges.

Donley County Sheriff Butch Blackburn said that there were no injuries to civilians or property damage.

Smith escaped from Donley County Jail where he was being held for seven charges of forgery and one charge of evading arrest.
