AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A piece of World War II history made its way to Amarillo. The Liberty Bell is a fully restored World War II flying fortress. Its one of only 14 B-17's still flying today.

The plane was built toward the end of the war and never saw actual combat. The plane's owners say a flight provides visitors to take a step back in time.

"To be up close and personal and to actually touch this aircraft and to get on board and experience it and to have a flavor of what these people went through in World War II, which was just staggering the numbers and the losses for our freedom. So, I never pass up the opportunity to tell a Veteran thank you for what they did," said Ray Fowler, Liberty Foundation pilot.

Public flights are available on September 4th, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Amarillo International Airport Tac Air FBO, to schedule a flight you can call 918-340-0243.
