AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Fall is officially upon us, bringing with it scarves, sniffles, and the dreaded flu bug. But for those scared of the sting of the flu vaccine, the pros far outweigh the cons.

"I recommend a flu shot for everyone, just to be on the safe side," Jarrod Hayes, Southpark Pharmacy pharmacist said. "But especially the young kids and the elderly. If they get sick, it'll develop into a more serious problem."

Drastic changes in the weather can sometimes lead to the flu, weather conditions that are too common in the Texas Panhandle.

"Whenever we have a really warm day, and the very next day we're in the forty's and fifty's, that can really throw your immune system off," Hayes said. "You're just gonna be more susceptible."

Parents that struggle getting their kids to the pharmacist, have no fear. Many pharmacies offer vaccine pops instead of the shot.

Flu shots may come with flu-like side effects, but according to Hayes they won't actually give you the flu. Vaccines can be found in pharmacies across Amarillo including Southpark Pharmacy, United Pharmacy, and Walmart Pharmacy.
