AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo Recovery for Alcohol and Drugs is aiming to help homeless residents beat drug and alcohol addiction.

"ARAD is a not-for-profit organization and our mission is to provide the equivalent of a 30-day residential treatment for substance abuse for people who are residing in shelters", says ARAD Program Director, Perry Gilmore.

The non-profit is partnering with 6 local homeless shelters after they recognized a need for an intensive outpatient program. ARAD has partnered with the following shelters: Faith City Ministries, Downtown Women's Center, Salvation Army, Men's Alcohol Recovery Center, Martha's Home, and the Domestic Violence Shelter.

"There's been a shortage of substance abuse services for many years here. There's no local impatient treatment, no programs of this type", says Texas Panhandle Centers', Jim Womack.

Texas Panhandle Centers provided ARAD with some much needed resources. "Texas Panhandle Centers is partnering with ARAD in actually providing them office space to run this program. What we'll do is we'll do any intake screenings, psychiatric screenings, that type of thing", says Womack.

The program will also provide bus transportation to and from the shelter to ARAD. The program will run Monday through Friday, and partially on Saturday. Participants will also be served lunch free of charge.
