The final plan for the Grand Street bridge in Amarillo at South East Third street was presented today. The city showed that blueprint in an open meeting for the $9.1 million overpass project, which is partly being funded by federal stimulus money.
Now the paperwork goes to the Federal Highway Administration to sign off on the construction, then the bidding process should begin in April.
"It's going to be a very big congestion relief for that, it also means we're going to close that crossing at third and Grand, that railroad crossing will be completely closed, and that's beneficial for the railroad," Paul Braun, TxDOT spokesman.
Once the construction starts sometime in June, it should take about 2 years to complete.
