AMARILLO,TEXAS -- Amarillo City Commissioners were busy in their Tuesday meeting. They passed some items that could affect you and held back a few others.
After a public hearing, they approved a 4-way stop sign at 32nd street and Hayden. The commission decided it was important for safety reasons, especially for the kids who live on the block.
When it comes to creating jobs, it supported a $1.5 million AEDC Incentive Grant for Owens Corning. The company will get $500,000 up front, and should create up to 145 new primary jobs.
"Anytime we can provide assistance to one of our local manufactures or any other primary jobs and bring new money into this community. We think it's a good thing that's what we're here for,"said AEDC President, Buzz David.
Amarillo commissioner Jim Simms also believes this is a good move for the area.
"And they'll be producing more than they were at their peak of business back a few years ago."
A few years ago, Delta Airlines flew out of Amarillo, and now it's coming back. The company's first flight will be to Memphis, on a $69 million lease.
Commissioners also approved Hydro Resources as the low bidder to drill 17 new water wells, for just over $4.8 million.
Finally, the commissioners followed the city of Canyon's decision and also decided to table an increase in rates for Xcel Energy.
