AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Monday evening just before 7:00, Amarillo police responded to a call of a woman being shot, at 513 N. Taylor. When officers arrived they found that 28-year-old Krishinda Gonzalez, of Amarillo had been shot at least 3 times in her upper body.
Witnesses at the scene say Gonzalez was chased by a black man through the residence and out into the front yard. According to the witnesses she fell near the curb of N. Taylor. At this point the suspect fired several shots at the victim while she was down on the road. Gonzalez was able to get up and run to another house where she called 911.
The suspect fled the scene in a red passenger car driven by another black male.
The woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance, she is listed in serious condition but is expected to recover.
Initial information relayed to officers was that the suspect who shot Gonzalez maybe her husband. A short time later officers located the red car, the suspect fled the scene in, at the Sundown Motel on Amarillo Blvd. East.
Through interviews of the witnesses it was determined that the actual person who shot at the victim was not her husband, but another subject known only by his nickname.
Officers located the suspects at the motel and took them into custody for questioning. A semi-automatic handgun was also recovered from a room at the motel and may be the gun used in the shooting.
The suspect in the shooting Thomas Johnson, 27, was interviewed and later booked into the Potter County Correction Center on a charge of Aggravated assault with a Deadly Weapon. This suspect is not the victim's husband.
The second suspect David Wickerson, 35, was booked into the Potter County Correction Center on a charge of Tampering with Evidence. This suspect is the victim's husband.
It is believed that 6-10 shots were fired during this incident, it is still currently under investigation and further charges may come.
