AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It may not seem like it now, but the first day of school is right around the corner. Along with that comes vaccinations, shopping for clothes, and of course school supplies. ProNews 7 went out Sunday to find out how much it will cost for school supplies, and what parents thought about those supply lists.

We picked up a first grade school supply list at a local retailer.  Once we started looking at the check lists we realized there were so many options to choose from, and with all those options came differences in prices depending on brand, quantity, and quality.

While most of the items on the list were pretty open to your personal taste, others were downright specific - like the brand of scissors you need.

"What happens is that you go to one spot and they don't have anything, and just depending on how much time I allow myself to buy the school supplies sometimes it's...they are either out or the list becomes so complicated to where you....what your looking for you can't find it the the store, and you go shopping in three different places and they don't have exactly what is on the list," said parent of three, Amy Mendoza.

Regardless how many and demanding the items on list are becoming, they are deemed as being needed in the classroom.

"Speaking from a teachers stand point, it really helps to have parents who are supportive - bringing the extra clorox wipes and the extra hand sanitizer and things like that," said Amarillo teacher Amy Sternenberg.

ProNews 7 picked up a first grade list at random, some of the supplies included: One single subject wide rule spiral notebook, 24 penicls (regualr, plain yellow, No. 2), 2 large erasers. The 14 item list totaled out to $25.80.

The first day of school is August 23, 2010.
