AMARILLO, TX -- The United Way is always helping people with various situations, and one of those is helping people in crisis.
They work alongside the American Red Cross whose motto is, "We'll be there!", and they do a lot more than we may think.
"It could be anything from a disaster to include a single family fire, or it might even be about a soldier and and his family or her family in regard to bringing them home in the sense of an emergency," said Vicky Richmond, Texas Panhandle Red Cross Executive Director.
Richmond points out that the Red Cross is not only there after a crisis occurs, but also there before disaster strikes.
"We give you literature, or we help educate you and or your children or families to be prepared and that way if this crises does occur you'll know exactly what to do."
The Salvation Army is the official shelter location, according the Public Department of Safety, and they help provide a safe home away from home
"If someone becomes homeless because of disaster they send them our way, and we hold them until we figure out what happens to them or what what needs to happen, and how we can do that casework with that family, that man or that woman," said Major Tim Grider, Texas Panhandle Salvation Army Officer.
And "Doing the most good" is what the Salvation Army strives for.
"That's our purpose, that's our goal everyday as they come to us. We try to be sure that we're being beneficial especially in working with other agencies who are helping us, and the United Way -- that is their purpose, that's what they do -- they help us," said Major Grider.
