BUSHLAND, TEXAS -- Bushland High School students are pledging to not text and drive after a special assembly. The assembly is part of Allstate Insurance's "X the Text" Campaign. Through videos and pictures of deadly crashes in the Panhandle, students were shown the consequences distracting driving can cause. One student spoke of his cousin's recent death, Brianna "Brie" Gomez who was killed weeks ago following an accident near Channing. Those involved say it's important students learn of the deadly consequences their actions behind the wheel can cause.

"Everyone thinks they're invincible when they're my age, and they're not. And I think this will open their eyes and kind of make them realize that they're not invisible and they can kill themselves as well as others," said Kersitn Willis, FCCLA President at Bushland High School.

After the assembly, students signed a pledge to not text and drive. They then received thumb rings as a daily reminder of that pledge.
