AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It was a proud moment for some local teachers Thursday night, when the Region 16Teacher of the Year awards were announced.
There were seven finalists in the Elementary division and six in the Secondary division. This year, Paula Bagwell of Belmarwon Elementary Teacher of the Year and Steve Singleton of Canyon High Schoolwon Secondary Teacher of the Year. Singleton says that's a big source of pride.
"To be able to receive an award like this, it's just a reflection of the people that are around you on a daily basis and the people you've worked with and the school you're in, the district you're in and the professional development you receive on that journey as a teacher so it's just a huge honor", said Secondary Teacher of the Year, Steve Singleton.
Singleton and Bagwell are now up for State Teacher of the Year, which will be announced in October in Austin.
