AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Hand puppets stole the show Thursday morning at Landergin Elementary School.
Thursday, the Texas Panhandle Poison Center teamed with with Texas Tech School of Pharmacy students to put on a puppet show for a group of first, second and third graders. They used puppets to act out real life scenarios, like what to do if they get poison in their eyes or not to answer the door when they're home alone. The entire show was designed to teach kids about poison safety and home safety.
"The children really respond to puppets much more than if I just stood up there and talked to them", said educator for the Texas Panhandle Poison Center, Ronica Farrar. "They listen, it gets their attention, it's a lot of fun. The script has some funny moments in it that they laugh about but they get the message when they puppets tell them more than if I told them."
Farrar also recommended storing the Poison Center number in your cell phone. That number is 1-800-222-1222.
