AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Plans for revitalizing Downtown Amarillo keep moving along.

The latest include finalizing contracts and looking at ways to use parking spaces efficiently.

During Wednesday's local government corporation board of directors meeting, parking strategies came up.

They know one way to provide adequate parking is by building a parking garage.

But they're also doing studies and making sure those parking spaces are wisely placed.

"It's really important to look at parking management for downtown, not simply adding more and more parking but how do we create a balance of getting the density that we want downtown and the development, but obviously addressing parking," said Melissa Dailey, Downtown Amarillo Inc. Executive Director.

Dailey also says the contract for the Downtown Hotel is near completion.

Once it is, her group will have an idea of when construction will start and how long it will take.
