Mother killed by hit and run driver, two-year old clings to life

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Randall County Sheriff's officers are investigating a deadly hit and run accident that killed a mother, and critical injured her young child.

It happened early Saturday morning at 2:23 a.m., when officers were called to I-27 and McCormick.

There they found a 29-year old woman had been hit by a vehicle, and a few feet from the woman was her two-year old child.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her child was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in extremely critical condition.

There were no witnesses on scene.

Family members of the deceased say the woman had left a residence in the Amberwood addition and was walking with her child.

However, while officers were still on scene investigating, the family of the hit and run driver returned to the scene.

The alleged driver is a 20-year old man. Officials retrieved his vehicle from his house and it was taken to the CSI Lab at the Randall County Sheriff's office.

Right now, no arrest have been made and the investigation continues.

The identity of those involved are not being released at this time.
