CANYON, TEXAS -- City starts plan to reduce water usage and fines for failure to comply.

The City of Canyon started its plan to reduce water usage city wide with a plan to require customers to limit watering days and times.

The plan will have customers watering schedules based on street address, box numbers or rural postal route numbers. The schedule also requires watering to be done on certain days.

For addresses ending with odd numbers, 1,3,5,7 or 9 are allowed to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. For addresses ending with 0,2,4,6 or 8 are allowed to water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Allowed watering times are during 8 pm until midnight or midnight to 10 am on the designated days. No watering is allowed on Monday.

Hand watering will be allowed for one hour per day, any day of the week.

Violators of the city ordinance, if found guilty of a misdemeanor, can receive a fine of not less than fifty dollars and not more than five hundreds dollars.

First offenses will be given a written notice.

Each day of violations can bring multiple fines. More than three fines and the city can turn off service to the address.

City police, code enforcement and city employees are encouraged to keep an eye out for violators.
