Man robs Family Dollar with semiautomatic weapon

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo police are investigating an armed robbery.

At approximately 10 p.m. Monday night a man entered a Family Dollar at 433 S. Western with a black semiautomatic handgun and demanded money, police said.

Two employees were in the store at the time of the robbery. One woman was at the register when the robbery occurred, police said.

The employee gave the man the cash on hand and the man placed it into a white bag that he brought into the store with him, police said.

According to the employee, the man was last seen walking south from the store.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6'6" and slim. His face was covered by a red ski mask and the suspect was wearing a grey hooded jacket, thick dark colored gloves and dark blue jeans, police said.

At this time no arrests have been made and there were no injuries reported at the time of the incident.

Amarillo police are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400. Information leading to the arrest of the suspect can earn a reward of up to $1000. Crime Stoppers callers will remain anonymous.
