AMARILLO, TEXAS -- For many, the holiday season is a time for traditions and time spent with loved ones.
Families across the Panhandle pile into cars every year to drive around Amarillo in search of the best Christmas light display. Two locations, in particular, always seem to attract the biggest crowds.
Dr. Patton's Christmas light display, off Georgia Street, brings families from near and far to catch a glimpse of their spectacular display. The Patton's even have programmed a radio station that plays holiday hits, in perfect timing with the light display.
Candy Cane lane, off Gainsborough Street, draws in spectators year after year. Most houses on the street participate by decorating their homes in festive Christmas lights.
The first recorded use of holiday lights outside of buildings and homes was in San Diego, California in 1904, and New York City in 1912.
