Driver ignores stop sign, kills 1

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Thursday afternoon Amarillo Police responded to a wreck at the intersection of the Dumas Highway and Willow Creek Avenue.

When first responders arrived they encountered a 1998 Ford F-350 Dutchman motor home had ignored a stop sign and was southbound on the frontage road.

As the driver, Anthony James Johnson, 37, disregarded the stop sign it hit a 2006 GMC Canyon truck going west on Willow Creek Ave, according to a news release from Amarillo Police Department.

The truck was driven by Michael Lee McDaniels, 57, and his passenger, Shirley Leavitt-McDaniels, 69.

The passenger, Shirley Leavitt-McDaniels was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries from the wreck.

Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department is investigating the collision.
