AMARILLO, TEXAS -- National Philanthropy Day was an event celebrated nationwide today. Philanthropists across the nation were recognized for their contributions to society.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals came together to host the 26th anniversary of the award ceremony, celebrating local benefactors at Amarillo’s Civic Center.

 Eight local individuals and businesses were recognized for their services throughout the community. The eight honorees included Bob and Jackie Pearson, B&W Pantex, Suddenlink Communications, Lone Star Ballet Guild, Dyron Howell, Josephine Anderson Charitable Trust, Susie Akers and Junior Board- Amarillo Tri-State Exposition.

 This year, more than 125 communities and 50,000 people around the world were expected to participate in National Philanthropy events.
