AMARILLO, TEXAS -- In December Christus Health announced it would be selling its shares of Baptist St. Anthony's Health System.
Since, several rumors have been floating around about a possible deal.
Those rumors, that Christus Health shares of BSA has already been sold.
So Pronews 7 spoke to officials to set the record straight. We found out, that's not the case.
In fact, the process just started. Earlier this week, a brokerage company was brought on board.
"We have signed a letter of engagement with City Group and that was signed by Baptist Community Services, Christus Health, and BSA. And we have engaged City Group to be our brokerage company for the sale of the hospital," said Mary Barlow, BSA Spokesperson.
Barlow says City Group will be in charge of marketing the company to the already many interested buyers.
"Their goal is to gather all the information they can about the hospital to market us to potential buyers to help figure out who is the serious buyers, who really needs to be considered, and then to help negotiate the price."
Christus Health ownership is 50-percent, Baptist Community Services owns the other half.
So now the question is, will Baptist Community Services sale their half?
"Baptist Community Services I think will be in the position to make that decision for if they want to keep that 50-percent ownership or if they want to go ahead and sale when they see who that potential buyer is," said Barlow.
There's also worries about the national credited hospital going from a not-for-profit hospital, meaning they do charitable work, help families who can't afford care, and public education, to a for-profit hospital.
Barlow says the community can breathe a sign of relief, saying the hospital's community outreach will not be changed by that.
It just means, they'll have to pay more taxes.
She also says, City Group will be bringing interested buyers to the hospital for tours soon, but that the sale could be a lengthy process.
