AMARILLO, TX -- After several months of discussion the Federal Government announced that half a dozen courthouses will be closing, including Amarillo’s Bankruptcy Court.
Federal judiciaries said that the changes are due to inadequate funding from Congress.
The closures were determined by location, use and condition of courts and offices.
Each court facility to be closed has no full-time resident federal judge, and many travel from bigger cities.
Closures will result in an estimated savings of nearly one million dollars per year.
Today, local clerks did not comment to Pronews seven on how the changes will affect our area.
The judiciary said it could see its budget cut by more than five hundred million dollars if congress fails to reach a budget deal. All-around spending cuts will automatically kick in next year.
