CANYON, TEXAS -- Enrollment numbers are in for West Texas A&M University, and it's the largest in their history.

12th class day fall enrollment figures are 7,958, beating the previous set record of 7,935 in the fall of 1970. The same-day enrollment last year stood at 7,913 students. Officials say the University's nationally recognized academic programs, continued campus renovations and affordability all contribute to the fall 2012 record-breaking enrollment.

"Enrollment at WT has grown every year since 2006, " said Dan Garcia, Vice President for Enrollment Management. He adds, "as we now reach the highest enrollment in our intuition's history, it's a great milestone, and we will continue with plans to grow in order to serve the residents of the state".

Fall 2012 figures also show the greatest increase in the senior class with 2,134 compared to 1,965 last year. The number of students seeking a master's degree also reflects an increase with 1,139 compared to 1,080 last year. The total number of undergraduates for the fall is 6,581 compared to 6,521 last year. However, graduate numbers are down slightly with 1,271 this year compare to 1,286 in the fall of 2011.
