AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Holy Re-write!

Last year, DC comics which produce titles like Batman and Superman reformatted 52 titles all at once, and now it looks like Marvel comics will follow along the same lines.

The shakeup is being called, "Marvel Now!" and it's turning that universe on it's superhero...ear.

You'd think with superhero's topping the box office over the last few years with movies like Batman and the Avengers, all would be right with the DC and Marvel universes. But that's not the case.

For decades, comics followed the status quo and dozens of titles have been introduced, flooding the market with different storylines and alternate universes, so last year, DC scrapped everything and introduced 52 reboots of it's best titles.

Recently, it was announced Marvel will be doing something similar, ending runs, like Amazing Spiderman at number 700 and starting over at number 1, according to Ed McCommon, owner of Big Apple Comics on South Western.

It's not a complete reformat, instead they'll be tweaking the characters and storylines but still hoping to regain the lead in the sale of comics books each month.

"What they're going to do is move some of the better artists and writers to new books, like Hulk, Spiderman, XMen, Avengers, Deadpool and go back to number 1. It's a jumping on point for everyone so if you want to start with MArvel, it's a great jumping on point."

So titles like Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, The Avengers, XMen and most of their top grossing books will have a different look within the next few issues, mixing up the old with the new.

"What they're going to do is give the new customer, "this is an Avengers to read, this is an Iron Man, A Hulk, and it's not a red Hulk, it's green, it's a Spiderman we all know and continue to know. So I think it's the right thing to do but they've got to follow through."

The "Uncanny Avengers" is on shelves now, and most of the new titles will be available by January of 2013.
