Amarillo call center set to close
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Nationwide Insurance's call center in Amarillo is set to close next year, cutting more than 300 jobs.
According to a company spokeswoman, the call center will close in July 2013.
"Business decisions that impact our workforce are very difficult to make," spokeswoman Nancy Smeltzer said. "We are letting them (employees) know this information now so they have as much time as possible to explore their options."
Nationwide said it will work with its employees to help then pursue other jobs within the company or offer a career transition service.
Located near the area of 45th and Western, the call center currently employs 325 people.
"The building required significant upgrades in technology and infrastructure," Smeltzer said. "This is part of our effort to enhance production and efficiency."
The Amarillo Economic Development Corp. currently owns the property of the call center location.
Nationwide said existing customers will not be affected. The employees at the call center provide customer service for existing policy holders. Other Nationwide Call Centers will take over the calls.
"Our customers shouldn't see any changes," Smeltzer said.
