Banks and the Better Business Bureau are reporting of a new scam that cell phone users should be aware of.
Consumers are receiving text messages or phone calls stating that their debit card has been blocked from usage.
The scammers tell the receiver that in order to unblock it, the card holder must enter the card number or call a number and provide the card number to unblock the card.
Banks, credit unions and other financial institutions do not contact their customers about blocked cards or to gather information.
If you receive a text message or phone call requesting information from someone you do not know, do not respond.
Phishing scams and other hoaxes designed to steal your identity.
If your information has been phished or you have been scammed in such ways, you should contact local authorities and your financial institution.
If you receive a fake phone call, take down the caller's information and report it to your local authorities.
