The first day of August is shaping up to be a breezy and hot day with a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. Upper level high pressure will keep our rain chances at bay, and help our afternoon high temperatures to climb into the mid 90s to around 103°. So yes... expect it to be warmer than it has been recently. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at 15 to 25 mph by the afternoon with some gusts upwards of 35-40 mph possible as well.

First Youth Town Hall planned in Portales

PORTALES, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico First is planning its first community town hall for young people.

The town hall, "Building Our Future," will bring together Roosevelt County high school juniors and seniors and area college students in Portales on April 9 to brainstorm.

Portales City Manager Debi Lee says it will give young people a chance to voice concerns and put forward their ideas for making the community better.

The meeting will develop recommendations for local policymakers.

The event is part of New Mexico First's Tomorrow's Leaders program, which enables teenagers to become active in public policy at a young age.

New Mexico First was founded more than 20 years ago to involve New Mexicans in setting public policy.
