OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A new study says one in eight baby boomers are expected to develop Alzheimer's disease and there may be 100,000 Oklahomans with the disease by 2030.
The figures are in the "2008 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures" report.
Mark Fried of the Central Oklahoma Alzheimer's Association says 70,000 Oklahoma currently have the disease and he says plans are needed to deal with the issue in the future.
The association is supporting a bill to create a government task force to investigate the impact of Alzheimer's on Oklahoma now and in the future.
The bill has passed the state Senate and is pending in the House Human Services Committee.
More than 5 million Americans currently have Alzheimer's and the disease is the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S.
