The City of Amarillo has been busy making sure we have enough water to get by for hundreds of years to come.
In fact, the city has already tested a new area in northern Potter County for its newest well field.
However, officials still need about $83 million to get that project underway.
A few weeks ago they met to see if the Water Development Board would grant their $83 million loan request, but the board had dozens of requests from other cities as well, so they could only give Amarillo $31 million for the time being.
Commissioner Jim Simms says it's a start and he's pleased that they can get the drilling started.
Simms says, if the board only approves the city for only $31 million dollars, they will just re-apply when the time comes.
