If you were one of the millions of people who watched the Presidential debate Wednesday night, you probably heard the term “Joe the Plumber” mentioned many times.
If you didn't already know, Joe the plumber is a real person from Ohio who met with one of the candidates at a rally.
While that Joe has gained instant fame over last night's debate, so is one of the Panhandle's own average Joes.
The office of Joe the plumber has been hectic all day.
The phone has been ringing off the hook. They’ve been getting hundreds of calls from across the country.
The phone didn't stop ringing when we went by their office earlier today.
Among the calls they received just while we were there were Esquire Magazine and a national 24 hour news channel. The calls started Wednesday night as soon as the candidates started talking about Joe the Plumber and taxes, and they haven't slowed down yet.
Joe the Plumber Office Manager Ronnie Bishop told us, “I would say an easy thousand phone calls, anywhere from people from New York, all around the country, Florida, California. People wanting to buy our domain name, and shirts, tons of shirts.”
Our Joe the Plumber owns www.joetheplumber.com, and they've received some impressive offers to buy that domain name, and more than a thousand e-mails.
Joe, the name behind the business was out of town Thursday, but he may cut his trip short to deal with the sudden fame that has come to his business.
