The ban on ATVs or mini dirt bikes will be lifted until May of 2011

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- With our proximity to the Canadian River, ATVs and mini dirt bikes get a lot of use around here, but since February the vehicles designed for 12 years of age and under have been banned due to lead content.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission emailed vendors to let them know the ban has been lifted until May of 2011 to help sale stock.
That means four wheelers, and mini dirt bikes that have been in storage since February are making there way back to the show room floor.
One local dealer here in Amarillo said that these particular vehicles make up around 60% of sales and that it's been tough that last couple of months without them.
"It impacted our sales, it impacted our bank accounts, we're having to pay interest on all this stuff as it sits on the floor, if it's sitting in a storage shed we can't sell it, that is a big cost, but now we're able to bring them back and clear it up, and sell some units," said Brian Lackey of B&R go karts and ATVs.
The vendors are now able to sell, service and sale parts for ATVs and mini dirt bikes designed for ages 12 and under.
