PANHANDLE, TEXAS -- The School Sisters of Saint Francis now have a new chapel, and after 9 months of work, they're celebrating. Folks from Borger to Amarillo came to see the chapel in Panhandle.
The 45 year old renovated chapel features a twenty four by twelve hand-painted mural of an italian painting of Jesus. It also has hand-carved wooden statues, glass windows, and wooden pews.
The sisters here said more importantly, it provides as safe space for people to come and pray. "So we like to say that god designed this chapel because it turned out so beautifully -- its got to god putting it together so the ideas we began with -- he finished," said Sister Mary Ana Steele. "Even people who walk in who aren't religious, they just love it," Sister Mary Michael added.>
The renovation was expensive, and if you'd like to help with funding, and have your name permanently in the chapel, memorials are still available.
