AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Clarendon College is excited about the future expansion of the Pampa campus. The college purchased 55 acres that will allow growth for the next 15 to 20 years.

Clarendon College officials say that construction of phase one will start as soon as they can sell the necessary bonds.

Among the additions included in phase one, are facilities for welding and wind energy classes. Phase 2 and 3 will add more class rooms, a library, a student center, dorms, and a cafeteria.

"Making education available at your home town is very critical and especially in today's economy where it's so expensive to go off to a university, we're bringing education where the people are," said William Auvenshine, President of Clarendon College.

The Pampa campus currently has around 400 students enrolled.

It's estimated that nearly 50% of college students are enrolled at community colleges, and nearly 75% of college freshman are enrolled at community colleges like Clarendon College.
