CLOVIS, NEW MEXICO -- A city that was seemingly divided will be one again soon. Today the city of Clovis broke ground on what will be the new Hull Street overpass.

It was torn down back in July of 2008 because the support beams were beginning to sag. Unfortunately the bridge was an overpass, that led to many major businesses including the hospital.

Governor Bill Richardson made the trip down to help kick off the ceremony along with more than 100 people from the area.

The price tag was estimated at six million dollars, but the city was relieved to find out it's only going to cost around 3 million. The Clovis Mayor Gayla Brumfield said the benefits the bridge will bring the town will be priceless. Brumfield said, "The businesses and people who are on the south side of town have to go three extra miles to get across the railroad tracks and even get into town. It made it really tough for emergency vehicles to get across and do business."

Officials estimate the bridge will be complete in about a year.
