AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo police are investigating a home burglary that occurred Monday afternoon in the 7500 block of Gainsborough.
Police say the witness discovered the suspect while the crime was in progress. The witness arrived at the home around one Monday afternoon and entered the home through a door in the garage.
The witness, a 36-year-old woman related to the homeowner, stayed in the kitchen for 30-45 minutes. She then walked toward another room, that's when she discovered the unknown man in the hall.
She described the man as a white male between the ages of 20-30 years-old, about 5'8"-5'10", wearing a dark ball cap and blue hooded jacket. He had a silver knife in his hand. He told the woman that he didn't want to hurt her and he just wanted to leave. She let him leave, and he ran out the back door.
The homeowner said the suspect took two cameras, credit cards, jewelry, and a knife was missing from a bedroom in the home.
Officers discovered the suspect was able to enter the home through an exterior back door that had entry into the garage, he was then able to get in the home through the unsecured door in the garage. Apparently the suspect had been in the home for an estimated 30-45 minutes before the witness discovered him there.
The incident is under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.
