AMARILLO -- Although we're all aware that Thanksgiving is about much more than food...most of us would have to admit that turkey, stuffing, potatoes, casseroles, cranberry sauce, and pies are all pretty important. Eighty turkeys, and around six hundred pounds of other ingredients were combined to feed around 389 people earlier today at the Salvation Army here in Amarillo. Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch?!

Volunteers turned out in droves to serve other folks in the area including the homeless, the elderly, or folks who just may be alone this holiday. Major Tim Grider was pleased with the turn-out saying, "We may actually have more volunteers than people served today...and that's a great problem to have. I'm looking around and this makes me happy to know that this many people in the community care and want to be a part of this today."

The Major also added that their primary focus was to raise hope and cheer in the hearts of the folks they served...even if it was just for a couple hours.
