United Supermarket on I-40 and Grand will be an Amigos

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- You could say it's a new flavor, of an old favorite.

United Supermarkets are converting their store on I-40 and Grand into a newer store, called Amigos.

Construction began just last night, and officials believe that the store will be completely converted by early August.

Although the new layout and features of the store will be catered mostly toward Hispanics, officials think that there will be something for everyone.

"We're excited to extend the Amigos brand to the folks up there in Amarillo, and we know that guests will find something unique there in the store," said Corporate Marketing Director for United, Eddie Owens "and that will be attractive not only for Hispanics--but for all our store guests who might be looking for authentic Mexican flavor."

United will remain open during the transition.

This Amigos store will be only the third in the state; the others are in Plainview and in Lubbock.
