AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The man who had barricaded himself in his estranged wife's apartment left peacefully Thursday night.  According to police, the man will now go for a mental evaluation, and no charges have been filed.

Earlier, Amarillo police, SWAT teams members and other emergency responders arrived at Country Club Villas apartments on 45th and Coulter, to negotiate with a man who locked himself inside an apartment at 6:30pm.

Police tell ProNews 7 that the man in his 40's went to apartment #411, to visit his estranged wife.

According to police, the man knocked on the door and told the woman he was delivering flowers.  The man went to his car and instead grabbed a rifle.  The woman ran from the apartment and called police while the man locked himself inside.

20 minutes later SWAT team members arrived and used their robot to try and make contact.

Two and a half hours later, contact was made and police negotiated with the suspect.
