CASTRO COUNTY, TEXAS -- A Castro County woman is recovering after allegedly being abducted Tuesday evening from her home near Nazareth.

Sheriff's officials said Lynn Simms called 911 Tuesday at 6:01p.m. from her home on FM 168 and requested that an officer call her about a person driving by her residence.

Deputies responded to the home after calling Simms and hearing a lot of screaming over the phone.

Castro County Sheriff's officials tried several times unsuccessfully to contact Simms when Deputies arrived and found her residence empty.

Her vehicle was found a quarter of a mile west if her residence on FM 1075, appearing to have been involved in an accident. Her cell phone was also found broken on the pavement.

At 6:23 p.m. the Castro County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a man who reported seeing a woman jump out of a vehicle on County Road 605 in northern Castro County. The man reported that he tried to stop and help the woman, but the driver of the vehicle pointed a long barreled firearm at him.

Sheriff's officials were able to identify the suspect as Ronnie Joe Stowers, 57, of Tulia, and acquaintance of Simms.

Wednesday morning, the Lea County, New Mexico Sheriff's Office notified the Castor County Sheriff's office that Simms had been released by Stowers, and that STowers had apparently shot himself.

Stowers was taken to a hospital in Lovington, New Mexico and airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock where he is undergoing emergency surgery for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Simms was treated and released from a hospital in Lovington, New Mexico for minor injuries.

The Castro County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
