BUSHLAND, TEXAS -- So what's going to happen to the folks near the explosion? ProNews Seven spoke with the family who lives directly across from the explosion, and the family who lives right next door,
They were kind enough to let us into their home, and told us their story, one of not only a huge explosion, but a community rallying together. "I looked out the window, and said this things, on fire, lets get out! " said Greg Herring, who lives across the street.
Karla Hill, lives next door, and said once her family saw the flames, "so we we grabbed what clothes we could and headed out." Families who headed around those flames early this morning, are now back home to pick up the pieces.
"All the windows on this house are broken in, the entire roof will have to be done. the shingles are all melted to the decking, so they will have to be replaced," said Herring.
Yet, for, all the broken items, there are new things melting together. "They've been calling, people we don't even know, right here in small town usa," Herring continued.
And it's in this small town of Bushland, that folks are looking for the sun to rise another day...
"The way i look at is, family and pets are safe and sound, the material things will always be replaced," said Herring. "You have to go on, God's given us another day and we can never take that for granted, so we're really blessed for that," said Hill.
The 24-inch pipe that caused the fire is owned by El Paso natural gas. We spoke with them and they are hoping to have their people assessing the situation and going door to door. Then eventually, they say they will look into filling damage claims for homeowners.
