AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Pronews 7 has learned that over 10,000 doses of vaccine for the H1N1 virus is headed to Potter County. Pronews 7 just confirmed that all of those doses have gone directly to private providers.
The Amarillo Health Department has not been provided any new doses since their inital 200. Those went to BSA and Northwest Texas Hospitals to treat medical personnel. The department said they think the state is working on a plan to put some in the hands of local health departments and might know more next week.
People are asked to call their private providers to check on availability.
According to Texas Health Services website, the county is scheduled to receive 10,930 doses, Randall County should get 1,620. In fact, most of the counties in our area received some of the vaccine.
As far as the spread of the flu, the website said it still remains "widespread" and that most of the cases are of the H1N1 strain. The site reports that most regions are experiencing the same level of illness but activity in region 1, which consist of the Texas Panhandle, continues to decrease. The state hasn't updated the number of hospitalizations or deaths yet, we will continue to check that website and update the information as it comes in.
