AMARILLO, TEXAS -- One man is dead after an early Saturday morning shooting in Childress, 28 year old Tabaris Brown of Childress was shot and killed by two Childress Police officers.

The incident started with a high speed chase, which occurred during a routine traffic stop for speeding. According to Childress officials, Brown led officers on a brief chase within the city limits of Childress, at 3:11 AM, Brown stopped and exited his vehicle armed with a hand gun. Two Childress officers shot Brown who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Texas Rangers are investigating the incident, and the officers involved will be on administrative leave until further notice.

Miss Brown,
Your grief is noted. No one should have to die by being shot, however, this was a choice that your brother made when he committed crimes, sold drugs, went to prison, then didn't change his behavior after being released from prison. He made the choice to run from police, made the choice to exit the vehicle with a gun in his hand, made the choice to point that gun at the police and made the choice to pull the trigger...live by the gun, die by the gun. To further dismiss the truths of the incident are only going to deepen your resentment and unfounded fears.
I hope that you are someday able to accept the facts of what really happened and not hold to the bitter delusion that this was racially motivated. And it's a bit self-obsessed to believe the police give a rat's behind enough about you to follow you around...unless you're committing a crime or exhibiting suspicious behavior. And if I were afraid of being shot, I think the last place I'd be is "riding around".

A bit of advice...the community will have sympathy for the Browns and the tragic loss of a family member up until the point that the family starts this rediculous diatribe of "premeditated racial shooting", etc. After that, the community will seperate themselves from anyone making such rediculous ramblings. And when your mom is making it known that she intends to "get paid" for this, people will do everything they can to work against the Browns ability to profit from this tragic incident.

Prayers are with you and hope that your family can heal and let go of this bigotry that you harbor towards people that don't deserve it.

Why are these people in childress Lieng about what they did ??????

Mr Whiteman, you're a bit conflicting. You say wait for the Rangers final report, then go on to say how the city police are guilty. The city officers are not being investigated as criminals. Any time there is a shooting involving an officer, outside investigators are called in. Standard procedure. You go on to say that a washed pig will go back to the mud and a dog back to vomit? Do you mean like when Tabaris was released from prison and went back to a life of crime and dealing drugs to children? I think on that note, you and I can agree that they should keep the pigs/dogs of society in prison where they belong.

I for one am proud of the people that are willing to wear the badge and protect innocent citizens from criminals. I can't imagine how difficult it is to be a police officer and make a split-second decision under the direct pressure of being fired at by a convicted drug dealer.
The vast majority of people in town are rightfully praising the officers for their quick response and action to the threat the city faced that night. Thank God for policemen and women. They do the job no one else will.

BE PATIENT ! DON"T WORRY !

The Rangers are involved in determining what happened in the shooting death of 28 year old Tabaris Brown in Childress, Texas. So with all your thoughts and ideas about what he deserved or did not deserve wait until the TEXAS RANGERS have concluded their investigation .
Of course the guilty are going to say any and everything to divert your attention away from the truth .The media is only reporting one side ,the CPD is only reporting the bear minimum .Don't believe the propaganda you may read or hear ...as the disgruntled person from the commmunity said ..."PRELIMINARAY INVESTIGATIONS"....it is far from being over .I wish it were ,but it's not .
And prepare yourselves for individuals like "MR X" that probably lives in your community and hides .He doesn't want justice ,just for all people of color to be shot down in cold blood . You know who you are !
A COWARD DIES A 1000 DEATHS AND A SOLDIER BUT ONCE .A Washed PIG GOES BACK TO WALLOWING IN THE MUDD AND A DOG BACK TO IT'S VOMIT ... you will probably take your animosity to your grave ,
It 's hard to change a person's views on life and color ... thank God we have a Justice System .

TABARIS BROWN :"EVERYTHANG COOL JUS CHILL "

nice rap. don't quit your day job. lol

Posted by Richard Noggin, Amarillo - Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 10:23 a.m.

To clear up all the misinformation being floated by the family: A call went in to police from the FAMILY OF TABARIS the night of his shooting because he was discharging a firearm at a FAMILY PARTY. He was located by police and a high speed chase ensued. He pulled over near where some of his family was loitering at a local business (at 3am, no less). He exited the vehicle, GUN IN HAND. The two officers ordered him to drop his weapon. He fired a single round at the officers who then returned fired. The assailant was hit once in the head and twice in the abdomen, killing him. This is confirmed by two credible eyewitnesses and audio of the incident (contrary to some reports, there was actually audio recorded of the confrontation and you can clearly hear officers ordering him to drop his weapon, and the shot that Tabaris fired at them). Tabaris' extended family then descended upon the scene and made it difficult for emergency workers and police to do their jobs. Tabaris lay on the pavement for a period longer than normal because the family kept attempting to disrupt the scene and were harassing emergency workers. Tabaris' family was even making open threats to the police, EMTs and threatening to harm their families. The JP was delayed in pronouncing death because of the disruption from the Brown family.
Background on Tabaris: He has served time in prison for selling illegal drugs to minors. His rap sheet was quite extensive. Much of his family has similar rap sheets. Mostly drug related crimes.
On the report that the cameras weren't on: Not true. The cameras were operational and working the night Tabaris shot at the officers. However, the cameras only record what is directly in front of the vehicle and they were not pointed directly at Tabaris.
The Brown family has been telling everyone that will listen, about their plans to sue the city. They are boasting that they're "gonna get paid". Sad. Even at Tabaris' funeral, members OF HIS OWN FAMILY stood up to say how trashy Tabaris was.
This was a very unfortunate incident, but it was avoidable. If Tabaris had surrendered and not fired at officers, he would be in jail, but he'd still be alive.

NO PROTECTION ,NO VINDICATION 4 CORRUPTION

Posted by Jackson Whiteman, AMA DFW - Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 3:21 p.m.

Your ignorance is quite apparent . Preliminary investigations ... means nothing ,unless they are factual beyond a shadow of a doubt .Allegations means nothing unless they are proven beyond a shadow of doubt .
Angry because they are exposed . Their stories don't match , Evidence crumbled and their conversation mumbled .

Saddened by the fact that your buddies are facing criminal prosecution ?Now you scratch your heads in agony and scramble to fabricate your lies ,It's clear to me that you are the one with the criminal ties .

You thought you had the perfect plot .And then you find out the LOADED gun was not .It's not even mental for a criminal to point and display .When they come out that mean business and spray .

Now , you will be exposed and your dirt revealed .He didn't have a gun just something he wanted concealed .
Now i am wondering about the conclusion .Now they run around in confusion .

You have blood on your hands and mud on your face. And you want to pretend that it's business as usual and there is no case .

It's already figured out and put together .Scratch your heads and point while you age like leather .

Like the world has come crashing in .And now about it daily and you review your sin .

THERE HAS BEEN DECADES OF CORRUPTION IN THIS CITY ...
THE TIME HAS COME .DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE HATERS ,THEY WANT THIS MADNESS TO CONTINUE ,BUT IT SHALL NOT!!!

Preliminary reports state that the weapon Tabaris was holding was fired at the police before they, fearing for their lives and those of innocent citizens, opened fire and stopped a would be cop-killer. It's a difficult thing for the family to accept, I know. However, constantly attemping to divert blame from the criminal to the police makes the family look silly and desperate. And the family going around town saying they're going to sue and "get paid" doesn't fare well for the reputations of the family and the memory of Tabaris. This is a sad tale of a family, steeped in the tradition of government entitlement and petty theft, leaving as it's legacy, a fragmented and troubled covey of offspring that only knew crime as a means of income. Tabaris had been in and out of prison and, sadly but honestly, the citizens of the state are better off without having to continue to pay for his room and board.

Do not judge ,or you too will be judged .(Matt 7:1 )
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone .John 8:1-11

We are all sinners in this life and have either done something wrong or are presently doing something wrong .Drug dealer ,prostitute ,tax evader ....etc.

What happened the last 10 seconds of his life is the only thing that matters now .Police proceedures....
was a firearm pointed ? Was the OBJECT indentified by the CPD or witness a firearm ?
I trust that the Texas Rangers will determine what actually happened that night .So,be slow to judge for now ...

Criminals Are Just That

Posted by law Abiding Texan, Dallas - Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 9:29 p.m.

Despite all of this criminals supporters we have to remember one thing..... innocent people don't run from cops. He was either guilty of something or high. If he was such a great citizen why did he run? And I don't know about him but I work for a living and I'm not out creeping all hours of the night cause I have to wake up and go to my job in the morning like other law abiding citizens who don't run from cops or pull guns on them. But to end my rant (which will get a slew of negative responses I'm sure) I just feel the need to ask..... what was such a "good citizen" doing that he felt the need for a gun? Yes its a tragedy that a life was lost but this is just the ultimate example of personal accountability.

How do u kno if ....

Posted by Bretta homes, mountainair,nm - Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:55 p.m.

How do you kno that he left the car with his hands up if you wasnt there? How do you kno what happen if he had a gun in his hand or not. Some of his family memebers clearly stated in one of his stories that he had a gun in the car that day. And by the way the cops in this town arn't racist. If they are racist then why wouldnt they do something about the rape case that happend in 2007 when a white girl was raped by a mexican. So go figure and eat your words.

most of all facts will show, Once the Ranger gets there and hears the sheriffs side then witness that can actually see him being pulled over Mike.what if the story was backwards and this guy brutally shot shot them he would still be free, and what mike , theres no evidence no survelance and like most are saying you cant always believe the witness or lets see what if they all got to fire off shots you still dont have footage between two police cars. Ranger hes gonna be able to sniff out what really happened. Alot of people are gonna speak up.Thats how it happens in every case.

Brooke, actually you can have a CONCEALED weapon in the car, just not on your body or in arms reach inside of the vehicle. Also, you must disclose that information to law officers.

Whom ever left the last comment obviously has no clue. In ALL accounts I've read and heard is the guy was fleeing from the police and when he finally stopped, he had a GUN! Who in their right mind would point a gun at the Police. Everyone knows what will happen. This sounds like a troubled man who wanted to die. These officers did what they were trained to do. And the Rangers will do their job, just has these officers did.

Drew, you need to pay more attention to your incomplete sentences and broken thought patterns than to the details of this story. How can the suspect present both hands if he is holding a gun? Let's allow the investigation to procede to find out what happened before we begin to pass judgement in this case.

Did he have a weapons permit? If not, then he shouldn't have even had the gun in the car at ALL! And I'm not going to be so bold as to decide right from wrong at this point in the story, especially with so many unknown variables. But witnesses accounts are NOT always accurate. Especially in high stress events such as this. Our minds can play tricks on us and are even more susceptible to believe hearsay of what "others" saw that we ourselves may not have with our own eyes, yet we are willing to stake our life on it as fact.

NO THAT WAS NOT THE ISSUE IT WAS A CHANCE FOR THEM TO FIRE THERE WEAPON CAUSE DOWN HERE THE ONLY FIRING OF WEAPONS IS HUNTER AND ACCORDING TO THE SUNDAY PAPER ITS BAD IN TX PERIOD.ALL IM SAYING THIS ISSUE WILL MAKE IT ROUGH AROUND HERE. I HOPE THE TX RANGERS DO THERE JOB. IT STINKS. WITNESS IS THE KEY! HE IS NOT KNOWN TO SHOOT AT COPS.
